Aeropress GO Brew Guide

Aeropress GO recipe.jpg

The Aeropress Go is the perfect blend between delicious filter coffee and adventure.

Easy to use and always great results. Robust and fun, the Aeropresss Go is often slung into a backpack alongside some of our seasonal single origin coffee for a post surf brew.

Our Aeropress Go recipe is slightly different to that of a regular Aeropress brew recipe as the capacity is smaller in the Aeropress Go, plus we have tweaked it so you can brew on the go - as the name suggests.

How to brew Aeropress Go

Equipment:

Method:

  1. Place the paper filter inside the filter cap and screw onto the Aeropress. Place over the plastic cup (or your super cool Foundation camping mug) and pour a small amount of water into the Aeropress and press through into the cup. This is an important process as it rinses the paper filter so you don’t have a papery taste to your coffee but it also preheats the equipment at the same time.

  2. Unscrew the filter cap and invert the Aeropress Go so the plunger is sitting on the surface (with the rubber plunger face up), fix the body of the Aeropress onto the plunger.

  3. Empty your coffee grounds into the chamber and start your timer. Now gently pour enough water onto the coffee to fully soak the grounds roughly 30ml (just over a standard shot size in the UK). Blooming is another important step as this enables the trapped sour tasting CO2 to escape from the grounds.

  4. After around 30 seconds pour the rest of the water onto the coffee grounds so the chamber is almost full to the brim (leave a small amount of space so you can stir without it going everywhere).

  5. Stir the brew for 10 seconds.

  6. Place the filter cap with the rinsed paper filer back onto the Aeropress Go and gently squeeze out any trapped air between the filter and the coffee.

  7. After 20 seconds flip the Aeropress onto your cup (make sure you empty the cup of the water used to rinse the filter) and start to gently plunge.

  8. When you hear the Aeropress sort of hiss, you’re good to go. Enjoy!

Notes: We always recommend grinding your coffee as close to brewing as possible, however it’s not always possible to lug a grinder around with you which is why we use pre ground coffee in this recipe. When grinding your coffee aim for a medium to medium/fine grind size. Somewhere between a stovetop grind and pour over, it should feel like sand or raw sugar. The good thing about an Aeropress Go is that it is quite forgiving with grind size, however if you feel like the coffee is bitter and over-extracted make the grind size coarser next time, if it tastes sour and under extracted alter the grind to a finer ground coffee.

FAQs

  • It totally depends on your preference when it comes to coffee and what you like to taste as an Aeropress Go is very versatile and performs well with most coffees.

If you are into complex flavours and light roast coffee, then the Aeropress Go produces a clean and bright coffee that highlights the subtle flavours of specialty coffee.

Whereas if you prefer big bold flavours then an Aeropress Go is great for those smooth chocolatey brews that warm up the insides. Either way checkout our latest offering for some great Aeropress Go coffee here at Foundation.

  • The inversion method is exactly what we recommend above in our Aeropress go brew method. We think it gives a more rounded and balanced coffee.

  • The Aeropress Go grind is somewhere between stovetop (Moka Pot) grind and a pour over grind. This information is of course useless if you don’t have these two benchmarks to go from, in this case the consistency is something like raw sugar or sand.

The way to find the best grind size for an Aeropress Go is to first of all go with your gut and then tweek the grind size each time you brew coffee until you reach the perfect coffee.

  • Our Aeropress Go recipe above brews up roughly 200ml of coffee which is a regular sized filter coffee.

It is possible to brew shorter and more concentrated coffee with your Aeropress Go by grinding the coffee finer and using less water, I recommend checking this Aeropress Espresso recipe.
