Coffee

  • You will find the roast date on the bag, we always aim to get the coffee to you as fresh as possible keeping in mind that coffee does need time to rest after being roasted.

  • Yes you will be able to drink the coffee straight away.

  • This can differ from one coffee to the next depending on roast profile, processing method, varietal, etc.

However a good rule of thumb is to let the coffee rest for around 5 days after the coffee has been roasted.

This enables the flavours to mature and the CO2 to be released which can taste sour and acidic.

  • This depends on your choice of brew method. We give you 6 different choices in grind size when you purchase your coffee. Here is what we offer alongside the coarseness. If your brew method isn’t on the list please select the grind size which best fits alternatively you can drop us a message and we’ll be able to advise.

    Espresso - Espresso Fine

    Moka Pot/Stovetop - Fine

    Aeropress - Medium/Fine

    Kalita/Pourover - Medium

    Chemex - Medium/Coarse

    Cafetiere/French Press - Coarse

  • To extract the perfect espresso the coffee needs to be ground fine. The finely ground coffee, once tamped creates a barrier in which the 9 bars of hot water pushes through at an optimal rate to extract all of the soluble compounds in the coffee.

  • We only use specialty coffee which is always at least Fairtrade coffee and the vast majority of the time the coffee farmers are paid well above Fairtrade prices.

  • One of our incredible coffee roasters will have carefully roasted your coffee. We spend many hours profiling each of the coffees we showcase which involves many sample roasts followed by cupping. Our final roast profile is an accumulation of many hours of hard work that we think brings the very best flavours out of the coffee.

  • You can drink Foundation coffee wherever you like. Checkout our shop, pick up a bag of coffee and brew up in your favourite place to drink coffee. Alternatively, if you’re looking to enjoy a pre-made Foundation coffee checkout our Stockist here.

  • We recommend keeping your coffee in the bag and keeping it airtight once opened. Alternatively you can use a coffee storage container that has an airtight lid. Make sure however you store your coffee, keep it in a room temperature cupboard or out of sunlight.

  • Although some of our coffee is certified organic not all of the coffee that we sell can be sold as organic. However, from our experience many specialty coffees are still organic just without the expensive certification.

  • Our coffee bags are now home compostable. This means you can just lob them straight onto the compost pile at the back of your garden and feed them to the worms.

  • We would recommend consuming the coffee within 30 days of the roast. After this point the flavours will slowly begin to fade. Shelf life is another question though as the coffee is still safe to drink after the 30 days, the flavour profile just may not be as prevalent. If the coffee smells really bitter and strange it’s probably time to buy another bag.
