Steeped in integral ancestral values, beliefs and progressions, producers in this area of the Oaxaca valley of Zapotec hold the land upon which the coffee grows at the centre of their production.
Indigenous people of Meso-America were pioneers in understanding the importance of what was all around them and these cultural ethics have been carried forward within the independent farmers there today.

The silky texture and familiar clean nutty tones of this Mexican coffee can be attributed to rise in coffee quality through enhancing the processing methods, post-harvest, to ensure that only ripe cherries make it through to drying, whilst fermentation was extended to bring forward the magical flavours inherent to the region.

100% of the 245 producers working with Caravela  are certified organic, meaning their land and production is free from chemicals and they produce their own organic compost.
We are firm believers that a care for impacts we have upon our surroundings can only improve our approach to the output and this ethos fuels our search for excellent coffee, conscious packaging and work practices.

Caravela have provided farmers with the Growers Education Programme (PECA in Spanish) to add value and allow them access to the speciality coffee market as well as subsidising organic certification for all producers.
